The GCCF Still Working Through Thousands of BP Oil Spill Claims
The one year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill has come and gone yet the process to compensate individuals and businesses that were affected lingers on. The Gulf Coast Claims Facility run by Ken Feinberg, is still working through thousands of claims that are still under review.
The number of claimants to date reaches over 500,000 of which 286,490 of those have been paid out (as of April 29th). The majority of claimants have settled for the quick pay option while few others opted for the final review payout.
Time has been a factor for individuals and businesses as they’ve been forced to accept the quick pay option guaranteeing fast cash. Many others who have held out for the final review are receiving offers equal to the quick pay option.
“The final review process has been set up to favor the GCCF and BP in every imaginable way”, stated Jason Monroe a bartender in Destin, FL.
“I lived in Massachusetts last year and they calculated my losses in comparison to my hospital job there. Because I didn’t earn as much in that job, they offered a minimal payout. A friend who I moved down here with worked in Finance last year, making triple the amount bartending here. The GCCF told him that his previous job was unrelated to the oil spill and compensation couldn’t be compared. They use whatever statistics that are convenient”, added Monroe.
As the gulf region prepares for the busy summer season, many residents will be eager to put the oil spill behind them and focus on rebuilding their businesses and lives.

You’d think that after a year the people from the Gulf would suck it up and stop asking for handouts. I’m still constantly hearing complaints about people only being offered 5k for a final payment. Really? Get another job at McDonalds to cover your loses from other jobs.
Rich, “handout” you’re comments are just down right ignorant. Free speech, sometimes it’s a real you know what.
hey rich – this company destroyed our lives – we are asking for what they owe us.
I couldn’t agree more. We have two claims in our family and now the 90 days are over. Our claims have been reviewed 6 times in the past 90 days and no answer, no money. The GCCF probably didn’t expect us to actually come up with all the triple information they asked for.
This has left families Homeless and they still dont care. They tossed out the last of the emergency applications and required everyone to do an interim claim. Its been well over the 90 days with still no answer or leter. People are sleeping in thier cars and it has been very hard to find jobs in the affected areas.. I believe they are saving as much by denying people so in the end, the money in the escrow account will be released back to BP. VERY SAD
I don’t believe a word!
I have 4 businesses that have been totally shut down by this whole mess. And how many more hoops can they ask me to jump through?
Every little detail that is almost impossible to meet?
I am tired of fighting! It is not worth my health!
I’ll let the Judge decide!
Amen Teddy! When this goes to court, BP will pay 5x as much in punitive damages. Unfortunately, many people can’t wait that long so they are forced to take the peanuts. However, the more people that can hang in there, the stronger their bargaining power as the court date approaches.

Why were ppl working as bartenders and servers getting checks for 50k, but those of us who waited, are unemployed because we could not find work, punished for waiting to see if we could get a job right away and not be so quick to work the system, why are they only offering 5k now? Does anyone really believe we have a good chance o win any lawsuit that is eventually filed?
